This chapters covers the basic aspects of developing applications for the PostgreSQL database sever. It begins with the installation of the server and setting up the pgAdmin administrative tool. Loading sample data into and connecting to the PostgreSQL server using Xbase++ and the PostgreSQL DatabaseEngine (PGDBE) are additional topics discussed in this chapter. Also demonstrated is accessing the data in a database by running queries using SQL SELECT statements from within application code.
