Database Engines:ads

DatabaseEngine overview Professional

The Alaska ADS DatabaseEngine (ADSDBE) can be used by any Xbase++ application to access the Advantage Database Server (ADS). Access to the Advantage Database Server needs a network connection to the server supporting IPX or IP as the network protocol.

As illustrated below, the ADS DatabaseEngine is using the Advantage 32-bit ClientEngine to access the Advantage Database Server.

ADS DatabaseEngine architecture

The ADS DatabaseEngine is a fully contained stand-alone database engine. In contrast to other DatabaseEngines which are divided into Storage-Management and Order-Management DBEs the ADSDBE implements all of the following capabilities:

Storage Management
Order-Management
Dictionary/Session-Management

The ADS DatabaseEngine supports all standard Xbase++ database manipulation and access functions such as DbAppend(),DbSkip(), DbGoto() and many others. Transparent FIELD variable support is guaranteed.
