Technical Concepts Foundation

In this chapter you will learn the basic concepts behind CXP, how it works and how the final output is rendered. We use the general term output here because CXP can be used to create not just HTML/XML documents but content of any other output data format (including images) to be returned to a WWW client such as a browser.

Since CXP uses a unified web platform, your CXP views can be used in web as well as in standalone environments, such as in deskop applications under Windows.

In the following chapters, we will use the term view or page interchangeably.

Most chapters will close with a couple of best-practice guidelines. These guidelines have been developed over the past years since the release of CXP. We strongly encourage you to follow these guidelines.
